Axles

Axles are also used in heavy equipment, like trucks, bulldozers, and excavators. In these cases, the axles are much bigger and stronger because they need to support the weight of the heavy equipment.

The axle in a truck, for example, connects the wheels on each side of the truck. This helps the truck move and carry heavy loads.

Just like with a bicycle or a car, when the truck moves forward, the wheels turn because they're connected to the axle. The axle helps distribute the weight of the truck evenly between the wheels, so the truck can move smoothly and safely.

In heavy equipment applications, axles also sometimes have gears that help the equipment move over rough terrain or up steep hills.
